Hey, something's been happening behind the scenes of The King's Warden promo tour.

And it's making me emotional.

🎬 WHAT SALON DRIP REVEALED

Quick recap from last week's newsletter:

Yoo Hae-jin revealed that Ji-hoon "doesn't make empty promises."

In Korean culture, we have "binmal" (빈말) - empty words that keep social relationships smooth.

"Let's eat sometime!" (We won't.)
"Come visit!" (showing hospitality but really let's wrap up and go home)

Ji-hoon physically can't do it.

Even for social courtesy, he won't make promises he can't keep.

And veteran actors noticed.

📺 THE WAGLE WAGLE MOMENT

Then the cast appeared on Na Young-seok's variety show.

And THIS is where it got interesting.

"I was worried - how would this kid pull off a KING? Then he yelled at me on set and I thought 'WHOA. This kid's got serious energy.'"

— Actor Yoo Hae-jin Said

The Compliment That Made Everyone Notice

Na Young-seok PD: "Hae-jin hyung is stingy with compliments."

But Director Jang Hang-jun cut in:

"Yoo Hae-jin loved Ji-hoon. Not just as an actor - as a human being."

— Dir. Jang Hang-jun

Director Jang on Ji-hoon's acting:

"No words needed. He's the best. This isn't acting that a 20-something can pull off."

💦 YOO HAE-JIN'S TEARS

Here's what got me.

In a recent interview, Yoo Hae-jin shared something vulnerable.

He attended the press screening - his first time seeing the completed film.

He cried.

"The story is just... sad. Not the light sadness of parting. It's something heavier."

He noticed Ji-hoon beside him:
"Ji-hoon cried a lot too. His eyes were red."

The scene that broke them?

When Danjong says: "I don't want to lose anyone I love anymore."

And then: "Am I... included in that?"

From that moment on, Yoo Hae-jin couldn't stop crying.

Why This Matters

Yoo Hae-jin has been in Korean cinema for DECADES.

Imagine, he's seen countless rising stars shoot up like meteors... and crash just as fast.

Some couldn't deliver. Some let success go to their heads. Some had scandals.

For him to publicly say he's "crazy about" a young actor?

That's not just about talent. That's about character.

Feels like he's betting on Ji-hoon long-term.

🎥 WHAT I'M REALIZING ABOUT THIS FILM

While making videos about this film, I kept noticing something.

The film is deliberately hiding something.

Surprise #1: King Sejo Doesn't Appear

I thought the movie would center on Danjong vs. his uncle King Sejo (the one who usurped the throne).

But no.

King Sejo doesn't appear at all.

Instead, the tension comes from Danjong vs. Han Myeong-hoe - Korea's Cromwell, the kingmaker.

That alone is a bold storytelling choice.

Surprise #2: How Danjong Dies

Historical records are vague about Danjong's death.

But this film?

The film creates its own interpretation.

And from everything I'm hearing - from Yoo Hae-jin's tears, from reviews, from whispers about "the riverside scene" -

That moment is going to be the film's devastating emotional climax.

I heard there's a scene where Hong-wi plays by the riverside...

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna cry in the theater 💦

February 4th

Opening day.

I'll be there. And I'll bring you my full review.

See you at the movies 🎬
